Aldo Bello Nominated for Two Capital Emmys
May 2014—Producer/director Aldo Bello was nominated for two Capital Emmys by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter. In the Public/Current/Community Affairs – Series category, there were ten entries, and three nominations, two of them for Bello. His nominated submissions are for Webisodes 1-3 and Webisodes 4-6 from his new feature-length immigration documentary “DREAM: An American Story.” The 56th Emmy Awards Gala will held at the Fillmore Silver Spring in Silver Spring, MD on Saturday, June 14.
DREAM follows events in the life of Juan Gomez, an immigrant who grew up in the United States from early childhood and is facing deportation from the only country he has known and loved. The documentary also looks at the problem of thousands of other young, talented, hardworking immigrants in this same situation and their struggle to pass the DREAM Act, which would provide a path to citizenship for these people.
The full documentary was recently completed. It received its first public screening earlier this month at the University of Miami, followed by a panel discussion with Bello and leaders in the immigrant rights movement. A multi-city screening tour is planned for fall. Find out more here: DREAM Screening Tour.
