Bello Moderates Panel on Social Media Communications during Crises
December 2012—Mind & Media Chief Creative Officer Aldo Bello will moderate a panel discussion on “Social Media Communications during Crisis Situations” at the December 13 meeting of the ACT-IAC Human Capital Shared Interest Group. The panel, which will be held at ICF International in Washington, DC, will also include Justin Herman, Federal Social Media for The Center for Excellence in Digital Government, GSA; Jason Lindesmith, Digital Communications Outreach Lead, FEMA; Holly Harrington, Senior Advisor, Office of Public Affairs, NRC; Chris Wolz, President/CEO, Forum One; and Bill Annibel, CTO, Sapient Government Services.
Government agencies are beginning to use social media to communicate with citizens and stakeholders in real time during crisis situations—and agencies are taking input from the public during these events as well, and incorporating this data in their responses. Use of social media in this way is evolving and processes are actively developing as agencies learn what works well. The panel will discuss situations where social media has played a role in their management of crises to date, and their strategies for effective use of the various social media technologies.
