Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP) provides therapist training for PTSD and deployment-related mental health issues. To help students develop confidence, CDP wanted a video series demonstrating techniques for use with tough cases.
Working with director Fred Elisson Burgos, Mind & Media produced 77 training vignettes. Knowing that stilted dialogue often mars video-based training, we cast experienced standardized patient actors and shot the scenes as guided improvisations. The actors used information from patient “dossiers” the client provided to portray believable people with specific mental health concerns. CDP faculty discussed the characters and goals for each video with the actors and worked out the flow of each scene in rehearsal.
The result is a compelling, believable series that covers all desired learning objectives. Viewers feel as if they are eavesdropping on real therapy sessions.
